One of the best things about attending the Bishop International Show in Chicago is meeting the artists and getting to speak with them. So many of them love to talk about what they create, but one of the great ones that stands out is Scott Hughes of Scott's Lighting. This man is truly a magician when it comes to creating miniatures and his lighting and craftmanship is topnotch. He is a quiet man who loves to chat and we spoke to him on both Saturday and Sunday. He even went out of his way to say hi to us when we saw him at breakfast Sunday morning. On Sunday during the height of the rush we asked if he would mind if we took pictures of his massive creation "The Accolade". This piece is based on the famous 1901 painting by Edmund Blair Leighton. Not only did he say we could take pictures, but he even opened up the front so I could get in and take some great pictures. I hope you enjoy them. Just in case you are wondering, he was excited I was adding them to my blog. Maybe one day I can convince him to get a website up to showcase his lighting.
This is the original painting.
The following pictures are from his creation. Keep in mind that he works in standard 1" scale. This is a BIG roombox. He made everything other than the dolls. They were created by Fern Vasi.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to show the rest of my purchases and I think we'll take a tour of a couple pieces by Rik Pierce. Rik is another master and I think you'll enjoy what he had this year!
Till later!
Thank you so much for sharing these fabulous photos. How wonderful you got to the Chicago show. I was fortunate to attend once and it was amazing.

I love the room box! You were so lucky to be able to see this work of art so close. Thank you for sharing the pictures. Looking forward to the Rik Pierce tour :0

oooooooooo outstanding what a thrill to see it so close up Thank you Linda :D x
ReplyDeleteI have always LOVED Scott's pieces! What a craftsman and artist. His lighting is superb, but only available at the few shows he does. Of course one can contact him by e-mail, I guess, but if you could be successful in getting him to put up a website, his work could be appreciated by so many more.
ReplyDeleteI love that roombox! thank you so much for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the comments. I love sharing them with everyone almost as much as I loved seeing this in person. Looking at the pictures makes it almost like being there again.
ReplyDeleteOH MY! Oh MY! What an AMAZING scene!!! That Room Box must be enormous to get the proportions right! He has built a fantastic scene! Thank you so much for sharing these pics! Maybe Someday I'll get to go to the Show. I can't wait to see what Rik Pierce has been building......
ReplyDeleteThis roombox is huge. In fact, I'm not even sure I would call it a room box. It is a piece of furniture. I'll have to see if I can find a good exterior shot. It is just as beautiful outside. It has carved lions and other decor. It even has a set of headphones that you can put on and it tells the story. Amazing work! You really MUST go to the show at least once.
ReplyDeleteOMG! For a medieval lover like myself, this is Nirvana! I would love to see the whole piece! This piece has me breathless!
ReplyDeletein person is AMAZING!! Well worth the price of the air ticket to Chicago. In the next days post there is a picture of the outside I believe. Hard to get it all in one picture because of the size, but I sure tried.
ReplyDeleteHi Doug,
ReplyDeleteI hope you are going to showcase Scott next weekend, I am so sorry I won't be there to see it in person, he sent out a teaser last week. So enjoy your blog. Thank you.
